Historic Townhome Restoration
A pre-Civil War Alexandria townhome carefully restored with period-appropriate details while integrating modern mechanical systems and an open kitchen.
Project Story
Working in Alexandria's historic district required approvals from the Board of Architectural Review. We documented every original detail — heart pine floors, plaster moldings, mantels — and developed a restoration plan that preserved character while modernizing systems.
New high-efficiency HVAC was concealed within existing chases. Updated electrical throughout met modern code without visible conduit. The kitchen was completely redesigned with period-appropriate cabinetry and hidden modern appliances.
Foundation work addressed settling issues, and new insulation was carefully installed in wall cavities without disturbing original plaster. The result is a home that looks 1850 and lives 2026.
“They treated our home like a museum piece — with more respect than any contractor we've ever worked with.”
